CANADIAN MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Studying in Canada is an exciting and enriching experience for students from around the world.

Formerly known as the Dominion of Canada, the country is located at the northernmost part of the North American continent. It is a decentralized federation, established in 1867 through the Constitution Act, consisting of 10 provinces and 3 territories. With a land area of 9,984,670 km² and a population of approximately 40 million, Canada has, in its relatively short history, become a knowledge-based nation, admired for its world-class governance, institutions, culture, and lifestyle. The country takes great pride in its breathtaking natural beauty and vast open spaces.

Canadians are deeply committed to education, environmental protection, and health care for all, and they look to the future with confidence and hope. For many students worldwide, studying in Canada is not only exciting but also a life-changing journey.

Why Choose Canada?

Canada’s reputation in education is built on quality and recognized for its excellence in the field. International educators often choose Canada for academic partnerships, research collaboration, and student exchange

Canadian public high schools lead the way in offering a broad range of advanced programs in both English and French, focusing on academic excellence, personal development, and preparation for life.

As a result:

• Canadian (K–12) students consistently rank among the top five in reading, mathematics, and science, according to the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

• International students benefit from a student-centered approach and a highly supportive learning environment.

• Canada’s universities are among the best globally. In 2012: o 4 universities ranked in the Top 100 in the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). o 3 were in the Top 50 of the QS World University Rankings. o 20 made it into the Top 500. o 5 were in the Top 100 and 8 in the Top 200 of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

Canadian universities are also globally connected, with over 5,000 active international agreements in place with institutions worldwide.

Canada’s colleges, polytechnic institutes, and cégeps (general and vocational colleges) offer career-focused programs with strong ties to industry. They engage in applied research to solve real-world challenges. Notably:
• 90% of college graduates are employed in their field of study within six months of graduation.
• 90% of employers express high satisfaction with these graduates.

Exchange Program with Canada’s Ministry of Education

Under the Ministry of Education's exchange program, students from nearly 30 countries are accepted into public high schools that offer a high standard of education.

WCEP places its students with volunteer host families who are selected and approved by the Canadian Ministry of Education. Students are assigned to the high school closest to their host family. Those who wish to graduate from a Canadian high school may continue their education at the same institution.

Our program advisors provide support with continuation procedures and university applications for students planning to pursue higher education in Canada.
