WHAT IS A STUDENT
EXCHANGE PROGRAM?
International high school student exchange programs have been implemented by 46 countries for nearly 70 years. Students aged 15 to 18 spend one or more academic years abroad through Ministry-approved programs, living with carefully selected volunteer host families who meet strict safety standards established by the host country's Ministry of Education.
Exchange students are enrolled in the local high school nearest to their host families, where they continue their academic journey. Our students are not onlookers—they are active participants, fully immersed in the culture and daily life of their host country.
The key to a successful exchange year lies in students embracing life as part of their host family.
As cultural ambassadors of Türkiye, our students take on various responsibilities that contribute to promoting our country abroad. In alignment with the core purpose of the program, they foster intercultural understanding and tolerance.
This program is designed to raise global citizens—young people who speak a foreign language fluently, can stand on their own apart from their natural families, build lasting friendships, complete their academic education, and develop a deep awareness of the world’s rich diversity.
Ultimately, the program aims to create lifelong memories for both students and host families, while cultivating a lasting interest in other cultures.
However, students should remember: this is not a travel or holiday program. It is an academic program, and students are expected to maintain a minimum grade average of “C” in all subjects. Additionally, students must follow all Ministry regulations designed to ensure their safety and well-being.
