Every year, approximately 50,000 students from Turkey pursue education opportunities abroad. In a remarkable development, the Worldwide Cultural Exchange Program (WCEP), in collaboration with the U.S. Association of Private Schools, has announced a $1 million scholarship fund aimed at enabling 25 outstanding Turkish students to attend top-tier boarding schools in the United States.
According to UNESCO's education statistics, the number of Turkish students seeking international education continues to rise. Recognizing the growing demand, WCEP, a Canada-based academic organization, has partnered with the U.S. Association of Private Schools to offer Turkish students access to world-class boarding school education.
Volkan Cerrahoğlu, WCEP Turkey General Manager, stated:
“We have awarded $1 million in scholarships to 25 exceptional Turkish students, allowing them to attend some of the most prestigious boarding schools in the United States. This opportunity not only enhances their high school education but also better prepares them for their university journey.”
Boarding School Graduates Are Better Prepared for University Life
According to a study conducted by the Association of Boarding Schools in the United States, 80% of students educated in boarding schools feel significantly more prepared for academic life and campus integration at the university level. Cerrahoğlu added:
“Graduates of elite institutions such as Preparatory School, Fryeburg Academy, and Lee Academy have gone on to attend top U.S. universities including George Washington University, Michigan State, and University of California campuses. Many of these students not only succeed academically but also emerge as renowned professionals.”
He further noted that annual tuition for these boarding schools typically ranges between $50,000 and $90,000, and their selection processes are highly competitive.
“Turkish students are meeting these rigorous criteria exceptionally well. We selected 25 students from various cities across Turkey and awarded them full scholarships, opening the doors to an extraordinary academic future in the U.S.,” Cerrahoğlu said.
Let Your Classroom Be the World
Cerrahoğlu emphasized that the schools with the highest applicant demand include Kabataş High School for Boys, Cağaloğlu Anatolian High School, Validebağ Science High School, and Istanbul Atatürk Science High School.
He elaborated:
“U.S. boarding schools seek students with a broad range of interests beyond academic success. Hence, the selection process was rigorous. In addition to written exams and interviews, candidates were evaluated based on involvement in extracurricular activities such as sports, arts, or academic competitions, teacher recommendations, and maintaining a GPA above 80 over the past three years.”
“We are proud to support high-achieving Turkish students through this initiative, launched in partnership with the U.S. Association of Private Schools. This project perfectly reflects our guiding motto: ‘Let Your Classroom Be the World.’”
